Francisco Ortega passed away on Monday, April 16, 2012 in Laredo, Texas. Mr. Ortega proudly served his country for ten years with the U.S. Army. Due to a paralyzing injury he sustained during his military career, Mr. Ortega had to learn to overcome many adversities. He was an active member of the American Legion Post 59 and Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family. Mr. Ortega is preceded in death by his parents, Petra and Casimiro Ortega; sisters, Aurora Gonzalez, Leonor (Esteban) Molina, Elvira (Arturo) Rubio, Rosa Maria Ortega, and Ruben Ortega. He is survived by his wife, Bernarda R. Ortega of 56 years of marriage; children, Rosalinda (Jose) Garcia, Consuelo (Miguel) Reynero, Barbara (Guadalupe) Mendiola, Francisco (Paty) Ortega Jr., Leticia (Pablo†) Garcia, Fernando Ortega, Edna (Noe) Olmeda, Juan Felipe Ortega; his brothers Tomas (Connie) Ortega, Carlos (Lucy) Ortega; sister Esperanza (Jose†) Cerda; also surviving are many grandchildren, great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A rosary will be recited on Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at 7 p.m. in the Hillside Funeral Home Chapel. A visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 19, 2012 at 8 a.m. from Hillside Funeral Home to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. A mass will be celebrated at 8:30 a.m. Interment will follow in the Veterans section of the City Cemetery
