Maria de la Luz Duran Maria de la Luz Duran, 91, passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2012, in Laredo, Texas. Mrs. Duran was known as “Pico”, “Lucha” or “La Guera” by many who knew her and loved her. She returned from Mexico 50 years ago with seven children, raising them alone during difficult times. Her accomplishments were many, her cooking unforgettable and her sense of humor with her, until the end. “Su sabiduria fue reconocida y apreciada siempre.” Once you met her, you would never forget her. She spent most of her life and passed away in the town she loved. She will be dearly missed. She is survived by her children, Rocio, Alberto, Arturo, Alejandro, Cecilia, Eduardo and Gerardo; 8 brothers and sisters; her loving grandchildren, great grandchildren and many loving friends in Laredo. A rosary will be recited on Sunday, May 20, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. in the Hillside Funeral Home Chapel. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 21, 2012. There will be no formal procession, please meet at San Agustin Cathedral. A mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the family plot of the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
