Date of Publication: Sunday, August 26, 2012 Hillside Funeral Home Oscar J. Chavez Sr. Oscar J. Chavez Sr., was called to the Lord on August 24th, 2012 at the age of 90. He was born in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico. He was a World War II Veteran having served in the United States Navy. He lived a distinguished life in Laredo, Texas in company of his family. Oscar was the last surviving member of his generation and is survived by his beloved wife, Zulema G. Chavez; his loving children, Zulema (Armando) Olazabal, Oscar J. (Graciela) Chavez Jr., Elsa (Arturo) Ramos, and Gerardo Chavez; grandchildren, Jorge (Lorena) Olazabal, Elsa (Roy) Huron, Erika Olazabal, Arturo (Angeles) Ramos Jr., Clarisa G. Chavez, Oscar J. Chavez III, Melina Chavez, Gerardo Chavez Jr.; great- grandchildren, Alexis Flores, Cody Huron, Arturo X. Ramos III and Joaquin Olazabal. A vigil will be held on Sunday, August 26, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. in the Hillside Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon David Vargas officiating. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 27, 2012 at 8:30 a.m. from Hillside Funeral Home to Holy Family Catholic Church. A mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. by Father Nolasco Hinojosa.
