On August 30, 2012, Olga Ornelas Salazar died peacefully and went home to be with Jesus. Olga was born in Laredo on October 1916 to Guadalupe and Adela Ornelas, owners of El Gallo Bakery. She graduated from Laredo High School and went on to study at the Laredo Business School. Later, she was a civil service employee at the Laredo Air Force Base. Olga excelled in her secretarial skills and climbed the ranks and served as executive secretary for the air base commander. In her youth she traveled extensively in Mexico and the United States. She attended the 1939 World’s Fair in New York City. Years later in 1968, when she accompanied her three teen aged children to Hemisphere in San Antonio, she was proud to say she had attended two Worlds’ Fairs. Olga enjoyed the finer things in life and instilled a love for art, music and reading in her children. Olga is preceded in death by her parents, Guadalupe and Adela Ornelas, and the father of her children, Jorge C. Salazar. She is survived by her three children, J.G. “George” (Maria E. Sauceda) Salazar, Martha Adela (Enrique) Rubio and Gerardo Luis (Consuelo Guevara) Salazar. She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Olga Consuelo Salazar, Agustin Gerardo Salazar and Elizabeth Adela Rubio. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all the nurses and her caretakers at Retama West Nursing Home, here in Laredo. Also, special thanks to Dr. Victor Treviño. A private service was held by her children. Arrangements were under the direction of Hillside Funeral Home, 310 Hillside Rd.
