Ramon Riojas

Ramon Riojas Ramon Riojas, 78, passed away, Thursday, October 25, 2012 in Laredo, Texas. Born in Laredo, Texas on February 20, 1934, he dedicated himself to accomplishing his many goals within the Law Enforcement profession. He served for the United States Air Force Military Police from 1952 through 1956; as a detective for the Laredo Police Department from 1959 through 1970; from 1970 through 1978, served as a Narcotics Agent with the Department of Public Safety. He then became a director for the Laredo Junior College Police Academy in 1984. Mr. Riojas also worked for the District Attorney’s Office as an investigator and finally served with the Webb County Sheriff Office where he retired as a Major. Mr. Ramon Riojas has instilled the importance of family, education and commitment in his children. He will be dearly missed. Mr. Riojas is preceded in death by his parents, Paula Garza Riojas and Eleno Riojas; brothers, Magdaleno, Ignacio, Alfredo and Florencio Riojas; sister, Manuela Rossell and son, Ramon Riojas Jr. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Lilia G. Riojas; children, Janie Riojas Maldonado, Leticia (Alberto III) Esquivel, Celina (Juan) Rodriguez; grandchildren, Denise (Mario) Mendiola, Michael Andrew Riojas, Nicole and Shelby Maldonado; four great grandchildren; sisters, Carmen Diaz, Maria (Johnny) Morgan, Cristella (Daniel ) Huerta, Alicia (Armando) Navarro and numerous relatives and friends. A rosary will be recited on Monday, October 29, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. in the Hillside Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at 8:00 a.m. from Hillside Funeral Home to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. A mass will be celebrated at 8:30 a.m. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Alberto Esquivel III, Juan Rodriguez, Ruben Riojas, Ramiro Rossel, Leo Rossel, Gregorio Gonzalez Jr., Michael A. Riojas and Francisco Tays. Interment will follow in the family plot of the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
