Ramon Castañeda Ramon Castañeda, 85, passed away on Monday, February 4, 2013 in Laredo, Texas. Born in Laredo, Texas in 1927, he graduated from Martin High School and later Laredo Junior College in 1950 with an Associate’s degree of Arts in Business Administration. He proudly served his country in the Navy during World War II and later began his career as a state law enforcement officer for the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, where he dedicated 19 years to his position. Mr. Castañeda also worked for 25 years as a Federal Law Enforcement Officer with the U.S. Treasury Department U. S. Customs Service, receiving 16 commendation letters during his 25 years of service. He also served as an undercover narcotics agent for the U.S. Customs Bureau during the 1950s. His love for baseball, led him to coach a champion Little League Baseball Team in the 1950’s sponsored by Don Antonio’s Men’s Wear. He will be dearly missed. Mr. Castañeda is preceded in death by his father, Enrique Sr. and Maria B. Castañeda; brother, Pete (Rosalia) Castañeda Sr. He is survived by his loving wife, Maria M. Perez de Castañeda, whom was the love of his life since they first met, 63 years ago; daughter, Mecedes E. Castañeda; siblings, Enrique (Belia +) Castañeda Jr., Guadalupe C. (Erasmo +) Santos, Estela C. (Ramiro +) Lopez. A rosary will be recited on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. in the Hillside Funeral Home Chapel. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. from Hillside Funeral Home to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. A mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the family plot of the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
