Arturo Gutierrez

November 1, 1920 — February 21, 2013

Arturo Gutierrez, 92, passed away on Thursday February 21, 2013 at home surrounded by his loving family and loved ones. Mr. Gutierrez began his career with L.I.S.D. as an Assistant Principal and later became a Director of the Migrant Program. He later became Principal and retired after 45 years. His community involvement included the Lulac Council #12 where he held many positions. Our father was a great man who taught us his morals, faith, and the value of a good education. Daddy’s pride and joy were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Gutierrez is preceded in death by his parents, Jose Gutierrez and Librada Tovar de Gutierrez; and great-granddaughter, Danniela Victoria Arellano. He is also preceded in death by numerous brothers and sisters. He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Maria M. Gutierrez; son, Arturo F. (Sylvia) Gutierrez; daughters, Patsy Y. Hernandez and Melissa “Mel” Gutierrez; grandchildren, Bellini (Wes) Rice, Arturo Lacey, Marc Alexander (Kathy) Gutierrez, Jessica (Luis) Benavides, Bettina Hernandez and Monica Y. Arellano; great-grandchildren, Christina Ellesse Vela, Lola Rice, Gerardo E. Gutierrez, Marcela A. Gutierrez, Sofia Avedanó, Kristen Ferreyro, and Hernan Ferreyro; brother, Jose (Irene†) Gutierrez; sisters, Concepcion “Connie” (Javier) Covarrubias, and Eva (Jose†) Rodriguez; sisters-in-law, Olga M. (Fidel†) Flores, Guadalupe “Cupi”(Eddie†) McCoy and Juvencia (Dario†) Gutierrez; brother-in-law, Fernando J. Mendez. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A rosary will be recited on Sunday, February 24, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. in the Hillside Funeral Home Chapel. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A funeral Service will be held on Monday, February 25, 2013 at 8:30 a.m. from Hillside Funeral Home to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. A mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the family plot of the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
