Belia Sanchez Johnson Our beloved mother Belia Sanchez Johnson, 84, of Laredo, passed away March 11, 2013 in San Antonio, Texas. Belia was born in Laredo to San Juanita R. and Librado Abad Sanchez on December 27, 1928. Belia graduated in 1948 from Southern Business College, graduated in 1953 from The Falk’s School of Photography, graduated from Laredo Junior College as a nurse’s aide in 1979 and earned her carpentry certification in 1988. Belia was a member of the Nuevo Laredo Tamaulipas Casa Pasquel Women’s Baseball Team during the 1950’s. She took the state of Tamaulipas to the Mexico World Series and was the 3rd best national fast pitcher during that era. Belia is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Sara Martinez and Maria Elena Estrada; two brothers, Salvador Sanchez and Jesus Sanchez. Belia is survived by her husband, Jesus Johnson; three sisters, Florinda S. Martinez, Christina Mendoza, Rosa Maria Lopez; four daughters, Maria Guadalupe Johnson Cavazos, Clarissa Eva Johnson Quijano, Lucinda Johnson, and Imelda Johnson; four sons, Alberto Johnson, Gerardo Johnson, Juan Manuel Johnson, and Jesus Abad Johnson; their respective spouses, Ricardo Cavazos, Jesus Quijano III, Tammy Rae Johnson, San Juanita Johnson, Maggie Garza; nine grandchildren, Juan Manuel Johnson Jr., Scott Johnson, Kimberly Quijano, Selena Daniell Johnson, Samantha Gabriel Pierson, Brian James Quijano, Thomas Abad Johnson, Jesse Alexander Johnson, Ruben Timothy Johnson; four great-grandchildren, Isaiah Elijah Johnson, Dominic Kaiden Pierson, Scott Curtis Johnson, Avah Johnson and several nieces and nephews. A rosary will be recited on Sunday, March 17, 2013 at 7 p.m. in the Hillside Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Monday March 18, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. from Hillside Funeral Home to Mother Cabrini Catholic Church. A mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. with Father Alfredo Gaytan officiating. Interment will follow at the family plot of the Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Imelda Johnson, Gerardo Johnson, Alberto Johnson, Juan Manuel Johnson, Jesus Abad Johnson, Brian J. Quijano, and Johnny Johnson Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Jessie Quijano III, and Ricardo Cavazos. The Johnson Family extends special gratitude to Dr. Jose R. Garcia, Dr. I.
