On Friday April 12, 2013 Jose Luis "Joe" Flores, 74, was peacefully reunited with The Lord surrounded by his loved ones. Born in Merced, California, he moved to Texas as a child. He attended Buenos Aires Elementary, Christen Junior High and was a proud graduate of the Martin High School Class of 1957. Known to many through his 40 year career with Sam Sullivan Shoes, Inc., he worked as a Manager and Buyer for Richter's Shoe Department. Always prayerful, Jose Luis was a devout Catholic who dedicated his life to his faith. As a former Faithful Navigator and Past Grand Knight of the Order of the Knights of Columbus, he committed his life to the service of others in an effort to spread his passion for The Lord. He served his community parish, Holy Family Catholic Church, for many years and throughout his battle with cancer. He is best known for his compassionate nature and love for his family. Jose Luis's carne asada was like no other. He truly enjoyed cooking out for his family. A special memory the family will always cherish is that of helping their husband and father prepare the Thanksgiving meal. Everyone enjoyed his stuffing and lemon meringue pie. Nothing brought more joy to Jose Luis than his grandchildren, and his grandchildren thought the world of him. They will be comforted by the vast memories they have of "Welo". He never turned down an invitation if it involved his grandchildren, be it recitals, parties, going to the movies, road trips and even Disneyworld. He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymundo and Estela Flores and his beloved aunt Guillermina Perales. Beloved by his family, friends and community, he is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Esperanza Flores, and his four children and their families: Claudia Flores Cabello and Javier Cabello, daughters Sofia and Teresa, Jose Luis Flores, Jr., Jessica Flores Suess and Leonard Seuss, children Joseph and Olivia, Jorge Javier Flores and Danielle M. Flores, sons Alec, Jose and Jorge Javier. Accompanying his children and grandchildren are siblings Estela (Rodolfo) Ochoa, Ofelia (Nicanor+) Gabrillo, Raymundo (Norma ) Flores, Lupita (John) Coffey along with numerous nieces and nephews. A vigil will be held on Monday, April 15, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. in the Hillside Funeral Home Chapel. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at 8:30 a.m. from Hillside Funeral Home to Holy Family Catholic Church. A mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the family plot of the Calvary Catholic Cemetery. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Father P. Nolasco Hinojosa for his spiritual guidance and friendship. If you would like to sign the guestbook or send private condolences, you may do so at www.hillsidefuneral.com.
