David Alan Snyder

March 21, 1942 — May 31, 2013

David Alan Snyder, 71, was called by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to his heavenly home on Friday, May 31, 2013 in Camp Wood, Texas. Mr. Snyder was born in Columbus, OH, to Fred L. and Francis Esther Snyder and had been living in Laredo for 15 years. An outstanding high school athlete, he received a four-year football scholarship to Florida State University (FSU) where he is listed in their Football Hall of Fame in Tallahassee, Florida. After graduating from FSU, Mr. Snyder joined the Marine Corps and attended OCS training in Quantico, Virginia. During his tour in Vietnam as a First Lieutenant, he served in various military missions, such as the Tet Offensive. Completing his military tour, he began his teaching and coaching career. He completed his master's degree in Industrial Technology from Appalachian State University, in Boone, North Carolina. He also received his certification in Special Education from UTPA, in Edinburgh, Texas. He is preceded in death by his father, Fred L. Snyder. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 30 years, Cynthia Salinas Snyder, and by his children Jennifer (Kurt) Traugott, Maria (Jesus) Nava, Jon-David and Angelique Snyder; mother, Frances Esther Snyder; six grandchildren Gus, Lizzie, Evie and Lucy Traugott and Armando and Francisca Nava. Mr. Snyder is also survived by his siblings Julie Burke, Fritz Snyder, Sam (Sally) Snyder, Beth (Steve) Banister, plus numerous nieces and nephews. Special thanks are expressed to the staff at Cedar Hills Nursing Home in Camp Wood, TX for their outstanding care and concern for Mr. Snyder. Funeral services will be held at Divine Mercy Catholic Church on Wednesday, June 5th, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a rosary at 6:00 p.m. and a Holy Mass at 6:30 p.m. A private family burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Divine Mercy Catholic Church Building Fund or the Diocese of Laredo.
