Rodolfo Garza Sr. On Tuesday, July 2, 2013 Mr. Rodolfo Garza Sr. 86, left his earthly home to begin his eternal life with the Lord and his beloved wife Josie. Our father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, was truly a source of inspiration, integrity, and strength. He was a great role model and always had high standards. He encouraged us to work and study hard to be true survivors in this world. In his prime, he was an excellent golfer. On June 7, 1970 he made a hole in one at the 17th hole at Lake Casa Blanca Golf Course. To his golf buddies, he was known as “Rudy Machine”. Our father was also a good citizen. He always did his part to keep his neighborhood looking good. He was a veteran of the Korean War; he was stationed in Anchorage Alaska. He retired from the United States Post Office after 27 years of service. He was a fourth degree member and financial secretary for the Knights of Columbus Council 2304 for many years. He loved cooking “Carne Asada” and loved menudo and barbacoa every Sunday. He leaves behind a legacy that each one of us is challenged to meet and follow. His interactive part in our lives will be deeply missed. Mr. Garza is preceded in death by his loving wife Josefina Campos Garza; niece, Lisa Garza of Ohio; nephew, Jerry Garza of California; brother, Reymundo Garza. He is survived by his children, Joanna (Rene) Escobedo and Rodolfo (Amy) Garza Jr.; his sister, Mrs. Ofelia Shottenkirk of San Antonio, Texas; his brother, Blas Garza of Sheffield Lake, Ohio; grandchildren, Jessica, David and Christopher Ben; niece, Melinda (Carlos) Ugartechea of San Antonio, Texas; nephew, Reynaldo Garza of California. A rosary will be recited on Friday, July 5, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. in the Hillside Funeral Home Chapel. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at 8:00 a.m. from Hillside Funeral Home to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. A mass will be celebrated at 8:30 a.m. Interment will follow at the family plot of the Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by Fort Sam Houston Honor Guard, American Legion Post 59 Honor Guard and Knights of Columbus 2304 4th Degree Members. Our special gratitude goes to physicians, Dr. Jose R. Garcia and Dr. Jaime Sued and to her caregiver, Gabriela Gonzalez for their professionalism and devotion.
