Rosaura Medina

September 23, 1921 — August 19, 2013

Mrs. Rosaura S. Medina, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother went to her eternal rest on August 19, 2013, after a lengthy illness. She was born in Laredo, on September 23, 1921, to Celso Sánchez and Manuela Aguirre de Sánchez. Rosaura, or Chagua, as she was called by her family and friends attended Laredo public schools and graduated from Martin High School in 1939. In 1942, she married Antonio José Medina, and their marriage lasted 67 years until his death in 2009. Rosaura was a stay at home mom for many years, but when Antonio opened his own engineering firm, she became his office manager and helped him run a successful business. She and Antonio loved traveling and went on many cruises and trips to Europe and to lots of locations in the United States. She is preceded in death by her parents and her second mother, Genoveva P. Sánchez, her husband, Antonio José Medina, and her brothers and their spouses, Ramiro (Verena) Sánchez, Celso (Ofelia) Sánchez, Rodolfo (Emma) Sánchez, and Mario (Sabina) Sánchez and her sisters Berta Montemayor and Mercedes Hiss. Rosaura is survived by her children Antonio José (Ofelia) Medina, Jr., Jorge Medina (Belinda) and Grizelda Medina Black (Tim), grandchildren Angela Black Bond (Gary), Christina Black Ross (Nathan), Iliana Chandarlis (Anthony), Alysia Medina, and Trey Black (Jenny), and 5 great grandsons. She is also survived by her brother Renato Sánchez, and her sisters Angélica Morán (Roberto) and Adriana Ramos (Andrés), her sister-in-law, Marta Dodier, and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. A rosary will be recited on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. in the Hillside Funeral Home Chapel. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 23, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. from Hillside Funeral Home to Blessed Sacrament Church. A mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the Veterans section of the City Cemetery. Our family would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to her two caregivers Verónica Hurtado and María Carrizalez for providing her with excellent care and making her feel comfortable during her illness. We also want to thank Dr. Rafael Deliz for his wonderful care and the staff of Altus Hospice, especially David Bailey and Teresa Martínez.
