Armando Martinez “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7 Mr. Armando Martinez, 70, passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2013 in Laredo, Texas. Armando was a hard-working man his entire life. He graduated from Martin High School in 1960 and attended Laredo Junior College for two years. He was hired by what was then known as Uniroyal Proving Grounds at the age of twenty. He worked for the company for 30 years and retired from the company now known as Michelin Tire in 1993. After retirement he continued to work, first for Delphi for 6 years and most recently as the Quality Control manager at Montalvo Plastics Inc. Armando was an avid coin collector and enjoyed spending time with his beloved wife of 53 years, Angelina, his children, son-in-laws and grandchildren. He especially loved watching the Dallas Cowboys and grilling outdoors with family and friends. Armando was a good and supportive father and grandfather. He was always the first to embrace his youngest daughter’s creative and fun loving family activities, most recently a Christmas themed t-shirt contest on December 21st. Armando instilled the importance of an education in his five daughters and grandchildren and was extremely supportive of their endeavors. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Armando is preceded in death by his parents, Jose Maria Martinez and Julia Salinas de Martinez; and mother-in-law, Angelita Benavides. He is survived by his beloved wife, Angelina B. Martinez; daughters, Patricia (Rudy) Rodriguez, Martha (Antonio) Montalvo, Anna Bertha (Jorge) Perez, Norma (Felix) Villanueva, and Sonia (Jesus) Ortiz; grandchildren, Stephanie Montalvo, T.J. Montalvo, Kristeena Rodriguez, Alberto Perez, Rolando Perez, Roberto Villanueva, Armando Villanueva, and Cristian Joel Ortiz. He is also survived by his sisters, Elena Rios, Bertha (Antonio) Serna, and Francisca (Agustin) Molina as well as numerous nephews, nieces, and other relatives and friends. A rosary will be recited on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. in the Hillside Funeral Home Chapel. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 3, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. from Hillside Funeral Home to San Martin de Porres Catholic Church. A mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the family plot of the Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Constable Rudy Rodriguez Jr., Antonio Montalvo, Jorge Perez, Armando Villanueva, Jesus F. Ortiz III, and Antonio Montalvo Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Alberto Armando Perez, Rolando David Perez, Roberto Villanueva, and Felix Villanueva.
