James M. Hale Dr. James “Coty” M. Hale passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2014 peacefully at his home in Laredo, Texas, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Dr. Hale was an Air Force Veteran, passionate about education and worked as an administrator for Laredo Independent School District for over 25 years after receiving his PhD in Education from East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas. He loved baseball and played short stop for the 1952 Martin High School Tigers Baseball team when the team advanced to the final four of the state tournament. The team was later inducted into the Laredo Latin American Sports Hall of Fame. He was a life-long resident of Laredo, enjoyed coaching Little League and spending time at the American Legion with fellow veterans. He is survived by his daughter, Angelica “Angie” (Brad) Harrison; grandchildren, Elvis James Harrison and Scout Rose Harrison of New York City; sister, Rosa (Pete) Escobar of San Antonio; mother of his daughter, Dr. Kay Hale and numerous relatives and friends. A chapel service will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. in the Hillside Funeral Home Chapel. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow at the family plot of the Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tony Dorsett, Brad Harrison, Maggie Flanagan, Jose “Corky” Gonzalez, Robert Summers and Aaron Cain. Honorary pallbearers will be Rene and Julie Barrera, Pete Escobar and Heather Stiteler. The Hale/Harrison family would like to thank Rodolfo and San Juana Lopez for their dedicated service as caretakers.
