Fernando Americo de Llano Fernando Americo de Llano, born November 21, 1924, passed peacefully into the presence of our Lord on May 5, 2014, surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Matias and Dolores de Llano and by his siblings, Mrs. Lola Jackson, Mr. Matias C. de Llano, Jr., Mrs. Mary Rose Smith, Mrs. Blanca Cooper, Mrs. Cordelia Hornberger, Mr. Rodrigo de Llano, Mrs. Sylvia Barrera and by his niece, Shira de Llano and nephew, Kenneth Jackson. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Zulema Garza de Llano, and their children, Rosa de Llano Huff, Matias de Llano, III (Martha) and Fernando de Llano, Jr. (Cynthia). Also surviving him are his adoring grandchildren, Juliana Huff, Samuel Huff, Matias Jacobo de Llano IV, Cristina de Llano, Sarah de Llano and Mia de Llano, and many nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and great nephews. Mr. de Llano was born and raised in Laredo and was the sixth of eight children. He was educated locally at St. Peter’s, St. Joseph’s and Martin High School. During his senior year, he was drafted and served honorably as a flight engineer during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Force, having attained the rank of Corporal. Subsequent to his honorable discharge and distinguished service to his country, he graduated from Martin High School and later attended St. Edward’s University. As a young man, Mr. de Llano owned a furniture manufacturing business in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. After his marriage, he and Zulema began a thriving fence business which he tended to until recently. Mr. de Llano was also a real estate broker. He spent his final days on earth singing, dancing and holding hands with Zulema and today he is singing and dancing once again. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him. He lived his life humbly. He touched everyone he came across and always had a one liner or “dicho” to share. His eyes best personified him; the kind, gentle, caring soul that he truly is and always will be. His eyes were the mirror to his soul. Mr. de Llano was known for his wonderful sense of humor, his dancing prowess and his kindness. Papa Grande, as he was called by his grandchildren, always had strong arms and a warm loving heart to greet them. We, his family, are grateful for the loyal care he received from Josefina Tijerina (48 years), Amelia Carias, Anna Guerra, Lorena Calzada, Magdalena Sanchez Mora, Martha Hernandez, Maria Elena Martinez, and Jose Paredes. He was blessed to have Dr.’s Joaquin, Ricardo, Carlos and Leo Cigarroa, among many loving physicians, and Superior Nursing Care, Melissa Cigarroa, to have treated him so kindly over the years.
