Benito Sauceda, Jr.

April 11, 1926 — June 14, 2014

Benito Sauceda, Jr. Mr. Benito Sauceda, Jr., 88, passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2014 in Edinburg, Tx. He was a lifelong pilot air craft mechanic who served the United States Marines 3rd Division Fox Company 2nd Platoon since a very young age. He implemented the examples of honesty, hard work, respect for others, and willingness to give oneself for the benefit of others to his family and friends. These were the qualities he believed built character and strength based on righteousness. He was a firm believer that common sense and these principles were fundamental truths to live by in our daily lives. Benny rarely spoke about his service as a United States Marine during World War II in the Pacific Theater, Iwo Jima and the Great Wall of China, where he fought to recapture many islands. But, made certain to remind his children of the sacrifices others had made for many Americans to live in freedom. Benny learned from his experiences in the war to never waver in the face of adversity, tyranny and oppression. He taught his family to be strong willed, to prosper and live with dignity. Mr. Sauceda is preceded in death by his loving wife, Carmen Sauceda. Benito left this earth peacefully surrounded by his surviving children, Luis J. (Maria S.) Sauceda, Benito (Kathleen) Sauceda III, Dr. Donna (Kerim) Mery, Dr. Francisco (Deahna) Sauceda, and Martin Gabriel Sauceda. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Salvador, Luisito, Panchito, Chave, Rachel, Angie, and Abraham; 3 great-grandchildren as well as numerous relatives and friends. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. in the Hillside Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 10:45 a.m. from Hillside Funeral Home to St. John Neumann Catholic Church.
