Octavio Bernal

June 1, 1971 — December 11, 2014

Octavio “Tavo” Bernal Octavio “Tavo” Bernal, 43, gracefully passed through the gates of heaven on Thursday, December 11, 2014. Octavio was born on June 1, 1971 in Laredo, TX to Juan Bernal Jr. and Maria S. Bernal; he was the youngest of ten brothers and sisters. Octavio Bernal graduated from Martin High School where he excelled in football, and first developed his artistic welding talents. Octavio then went on to graduate from LCC with an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science. He then continued his education by becoming a certified Locksmith and a certified HVAC technician. His children were his driving force behind all his accomplishments. Octavio was an incredibly hardworking individual with a heart of gold. Anyone who knows him can divulge in his loving character and persistent work ethic that made him the noble man he lived to be. He was a family man and prided himself as being a master chef who loved to see family relish in his many mouthwatering dishes. Among his many hobbies, he was most recognizable as a skillful hunter and fisherman who passed on this passion to his children. Octavio above all else was most proud of his three children. He enjoyed spending his days off taking them to the ranch, to Spurs games, and out of town trips to visit family. He was extremely proud of his oldest son, TJ, a senior at UT Austin who will be graduating this coming May. His princess was his daughter Alyssa; he loved to go watch her when she played volleyball and ran track. His youngest son Ricardo is his spitting image; an adventurous young boy who always tried so hard to be just like his father. In the eyes of his family and friends, Octavio will forever remain as a symbol of happiness and courage. He was an exceptional family man, best friend, loving brother, devoted son, and perfect father. “What you leave behind are people to remember you with love” – your loving family. Mr. Bernal is preceded in death by his father, Juan Bernal Jr. He is survived by his mother, Maria S. Bernal; mother of his children, Nancy Bernal; his children, Octavio Bernal Jr., Alyssa Bernal, and Ricardo Bernal. He is also survived by his siblings, Rosario (David) Ingraham, Imelda (David) Hayes, Patricia (Jesse) Causey, Juan (Dora) Bernal, Margarita Bernal, Isela (Jorge) Lopez, San Juanita (Eduardo) Cantu, Mercedes (Patrick) Siemsen, and Antonio (Claudia) Bernal as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A rosary will be recited on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. in the Hillside Funeral Home Chapel. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at 8:30 a.m. from Hillside Funeral Home to San Martin de Porres Catholic Church.
