Mr. Arturo Valdez Carranza Mr. Arturo Valdez Carranza, 89, passed away on Friday, January 30, 2015 in Laredo, Texas. He was an extraordinary man, a wonderful son, brother, father, husband, grandfather, mentor, leader, role model and friend. He was the epitome of a true gentleman, and a family man. He always found a way to make those around him better. He was a positive individual who always had kind and encouraging words for family and friends. He was a man full of life whose smile, encouragement and selflessness lightened our days. Mr. Valdez was an avid rancher, who loved the outdoors and the “cabalgatas.” He impacted our world during his 89 years on earth, and he will be deeply missed. He is now in the presence of the Lord, and his legacy will long live through the hundreds of lives he touched. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Gloria A. Valdez; devoted daughter, Graciela Mata; parents, Arturo Valdez Vela and Maria de Jesus Carranza; sisters, Hortencia Fernandez and Alicia Vargas; brother, Norberto Valdez. Mr. Valdez is survived by his children, Angelica (Leo) Lopez, Arturo (Sandra) Valdez, III, Arnulfo G. (Norma) Valdez, Roberto (Mary) Valdez; grandchildren, Jesus (Isabel) Mata, Jr., Cristina (Daniel) Rodriguez, Jorge (Adriana) Mata, Leonardo Rene (Sara) Lopez, Priscilla (Guillermo) Jimenez, Elizabeth Lopez, Jackie Valdez-Sierra (Rodolfo Sierra), Ashley Valdez, Alexis Valdez, Clarissa Valdez-Cox (Colby Cox), Vanessa Valdez-Avila (Jose Miguel Avila), Amanda Nicole Valdez, Tiffany Valdez, Roberto Valdez Jr., Rodolfo Valdez; 7 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Arnulfo Valdez, Amelia V. Garza, Jaime (Rosa) Valdez, Armandina (Rogelio) Perez; sister-in-law, Aurora Montantes and numerous relatives and friends. A rosary will be recited on Monday, February 2, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. in the Hillside Funeral Home Chapel, followed by a prayer service at 7:45 p.m. A visitation will be held on from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at 8:30 a.m. from Hillside Funeral Home to Laredo First Assembly of God Church. A mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the family plot of the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
