Norma Cantu

Norma Cantú Ferrara quietly slipped away to join the Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2015. For 20 years, Norma was the general manager of Avenue. Prior to this occupation, she ran a family business as manager of The Hungry Farmer Steak House. She was also a lifeguard at Laredo Junior College during her time in school. Norma’s well-known creativity influenced her involvement in local organizations, such as The Laredo Little Theater and the Laredo Animal Protective Society. Norma is preceded in death by her father, Raymundo R. Ferrara, sister, Teresa Aguirre Ferrara and brother-in-law, Carlos Humberto Aguirre. Norma was married to the love of her life, Gerardo “Jerry” Cantú. They shared 29 beautiful years of marriage, raising their two children, Teresita Cantú (Dustin Coffelt) and Gerardo Raymundo Tadeo Cantú (Valerie Castellano). They welcomed one grandson, Diego Alfredo Infante. She is survived by her mother, Marianela Ferrara Sanchez; sisters, Sylvia Ferrara Buitrón and Malena Ferrara (Aldo Uribe); parents-in-law, Eloy and Juanita Cantu; brother-in-law, Jose Eloy Cantú; sister-in-law, Cynthia (Alfredo) Morales; as well as many nieces and nephews: Cristina (Esteban Jr.) Paez, Melissa Buitrón, Marissa (Daniel) Grau, Carlos R. Aguirre, Jorge A. Ortiz, Karina Cantú, Nayely Morales, Alexia Morales and Sara Morales. A rosary will be recited Friday, February 20, 2015, at 7:00 p.m. in the Hillside Funeral Home Chapel. A visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. from Hillside Funeral Home to San Luis Rey Catholic Church. A mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. All services will conclude after the church. Pallbearers will be: Gerardo Cantú, Gerardo Raymundo Tadeo Cantú, Dustin Coffelt, Carlos Raymundo Aguirre, Esteban Paez Jr. and Aldo Uribe.
