Pedro M. Bustamante, Jr., 89, passed away Monday, March 7, 2016 surrounded by his loving children, at his residence. He was born and raised in Laredo, Texas. “Senior Chief”, as he was affectionately known served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy under the U.S.S. Indiana Ship, S Division. He served his country from 1942 to 1946. He was in the naval reserve for many years and served with great pride and commitment. He then went on to diligently help establish highways and roads for the Texas Highway Department for 37 years and 5 months before retirement. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Graciela Rodriguez Bustamante; parents, Pedro M. Bustamante and Antonia S. Bustamante; sisters, Ninfa Hernandez, Elva Santos, Amelda Ramirez, and Julia Barrera. He is survived by his children, Pedro M. (Otilia “Tila”) Bustamante III, Linda G. (Charles Ted†) McLendon, and Diana (Wayne†) Holstine; his dear grandchildren, Pedro Bustmante, IV, M.D., Christopher A. Bustamante, Maritza O. Bustamante, Miguel A. (Emily) Guerra, Melissa C. (Kirt) Gaskin, Dr. Crystal Holstine (Dr. Roman) Nieto Jr., Jesse Wayne Holstine, and Jesse Lee Holstine; great-grandchildren, Taylor A. Chumley, Kirt L. Gaskin, Roman Nieto III, Max Nieto, and A. Grace Guerra. Mr. Bustamante is also survived by his sister, Alicia (Humberto) Segovia as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. God made them a family. They had one another. They loved one another. They worked together to care for him. They prayed together and they now know through God's Word he is in Heaven. A rosary will be recited on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at 7 P.M. in the Hillside Funeral Home Chapel. A visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 11, 2016 at 8:45 a.m. from Hillside Funeral Home to Divine Mercy Catholic Church. A mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Committal Services and interment will then follow at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery Family Plot.
