Joseph M. Lundschen

May 26, 1928 — August 30, 2016

Joseph M. Lundschen, born May 26, 1928, went to be with the Lord on August 30, 2016 at the age of 88 years. Mr. Lundschen is preceded in death by his parents, George and Jamie (Cummings) Lundschen; his brothers Jim Lundschen and Ray Lundschen. He is survived by his wife of 43 years Diana Magnon Lundschen; sons Kirk Lundschen of Round Rock and Glen T. Johnson(Veronica) of San Antonio; daughter Elizabeth Rose; granddaughter Jessica Levy; great grandchild Sammy Levy of Laredo; niece Jayne(Jim) Turnipseede of Bulverde; Nephew Jimmy (Mary) Lundschen Jr. of Granbury. Shortly after graduating from MHS and while pursuing his College Degree from LJC, Joe went to work for Tex Mex Railroad for 20 years. He also completed a very successful 40 year career with Customs and Border Protection as an Import Specialist beginning in the Rio Grande Valley. A couple of years later he transferred to the Laredo District. Through the years his frequent travels took him to various US and Mexican steel plants to share his expertise in Importing and Exporting Steel products. The US Steel Industry often conducted productive seminars in Laredo and they frequently commented that Joe made sure they enjoyed Laredo hospitality as well. Customs personnel as well as the Customs Broker community knew Joe as the “go to guy” in his particular field. This led to Joe’s long-term association with the local College and TAMIU as an Instructor in the field of International Trade where he had numerous foreign students as well as those local students who eventually became Custom House Brokers. Joe’s hobbies were always hunting and fishing and he spent many years on a deer lease with all his “buddies” who he eventually lost through the years, but never forgot their “good times”. His family will remember him as a devoted Catholic faithful husband, family man, and hard worker who more than often “did things his own way”. Joe’s family wants to express their most sincere thanks to his primary physician and friend Dr. Ricardo Cigarroa for ensuring his quality of life all these years. The family will receive friends Friday, September 2, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Hillside Funeral Home, where a rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will begin on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. from Hillside Funeral Home to St. Patrick Catholic Church. A mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the family plot of the Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jason Leyendecker, J.J. Porras, Luis de La Garza, John T. Parker, Justo Leyendecker and Miguel Gomez. Honorary Pallbearers will be Buddy Key, Jimmy Lundschen, Jim Turnioseede and Edward Welder.
