Julia America Montes Julia America Montes, 81, passed away on Saturday, August 26, 2017 in Laredo, Texas, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Montes was wife of the late Fire Chief, Alfredo Montes, Sr. She was a devoted mother of nine children and sixteen grandchildren. Mrs. Montes retired from Child Protective Services after 25 years and was the founder of the Fire Fighters’ Auxiliary Club in the 1970’s. She is preceded in death by her husband, Chief Alfredo Montes, Sr.; parents, Lauro and Herlinda Veytia; brothers, Lauro Veytia, Jr. and Anthony Veytia; sister, Aurora Rodriguez. Mrs. Montes is survived by her children, Rose (Mohamad) Pourahmadi, Carolina Arreola, Alfredo Montes, Jr., Ana (Andres) Barrientos, Ricardo Montes, David Montes, Arturo (Gloria) Montes, Roberto (Leticia) Montes, Rebecca (Jeff) Shingler; 16 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Linda Duncan, Dolores Volpe, Gilberto (Susan) Veytia and Genoveva Pimentel. Also surviving are numerous relatives and friends. A rosary will be recited on Monday, August 28, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. with Deacon Frank Idrogo officiating. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at 8:45 a.m. from Hillside Funeral Home to San Martin de Porres Catholic Church. A mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the family plot of the Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be, Mitchell Pourahmadi, Andres Barrientos Jr., Jaime Montes, Arturo Montes Jr., Roberto Montes Jr., Nelson Arreola, Javier Montes, and Jose Luis Martinez Jr. The family would like express their gratitude to Cima Hospice Care and Dr. Jesus Virlar for their compassion and care throughout our time of need.
