Alfonso “Poncho” Garza, 97, passed away on Tuesday, October 03, 2017 in Laredo, Texas.
Mr. Garza was in the Army and fought in the World War II. He was a test driver for Uni-Royal for 20 plus years.
Mr. Garza is preceded in death by his parents, Alberto and Maria Garza; siblings, Osvaldo Garza, Manuela Garza, San Juana Mickley, Alfredo Garza, Alberto Garza, and Horacio Garza.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Isabel Garza; children, Beto (Kathy) Garza, Rene (Margaret) Garza, Fred (Carmen) Garza, Mario (Amada) Garza, David (Dane) Garza, Cesar (Gwen) Garza, Daniel (Debra) Garza, Carlos (Alma) Garza, Jessica (Gerardo) Maldonado, Janie Garza, Rosalinda (Amado) Martinez, Sandra Treviño, Jose Francisco (Mari) Treviño; brother, Hector Garza. Mr. Garza is also survived by 28 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A rosary will be recited on Friday, October 6, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. in the Hillside Funeral Home Chapel. A visitation will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. from Hillside Funeral Home to Christ the King Catholic Church. A mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m.
Military Honors will be provided by Fort Sam Houston Honor Guard and American Legion Post 59 Honor Guard.
Interment will follow at the City of Laredo Cemetery.
