Alicia Sosa Herrera

Alicia Argimira Sosa (Nena) Herrera, 79, of Laredo, ended her life’s journey on Tuesday Afternoon, October 1, 2019. Nena as her family and friends called her, was born July 4, 1940 in Laredo, Texas where she was raised and attended grade school. She attended and graduated from Martin High School in 1960.  On April 23, 1961, she was united in marriage to Ignacio Herrera her high school sweetheart.  They celebrated 58 years of marriage. Before retiring Alicia loved working as a Bookkeeper.  A devoted wife, mother, and friend, Alicia enjoyed her time at her church Holy Family Catholic Church where she gathered with her friends. She loved getting together and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, to Alicia family was everything.  She loved to dance and had a love of music.  She especially loved to hear the music of Elvis Presley. Alicia was also well traveled. She was able to see most of the continental United States. She traveled to Colorado, Hawaii, Wisconsin, Florida, San Francisco, California, New York, Washington, DC and several other places. She traveled as long as her health permitted. She was preceded in death by her parents Eloy Luciano and Alicia G. Sosa, her brother PFC Jorge Sosa, and her son Jose Ignacio Herrera.  She is survived by her husband Ignacio Herrera and her children daughter Maria de Lourdes “Mary” Herrera, daughter Maria Veronica (Dallas) Dartez, son Jose Jorge “George” Herrera (San Antonio, Tx), son Jose Humberto (Sara) Herrera, daughter Maria Alicia “Alice” Herrera, her brothers Eduardo (Manuela) Sosa, Eloy L. (Carlota+) Sosa, Daniel (Hilda+) Sosa, Salvador (Norma) Sosa, Ricardo (Ann) Sosa, sister in law Regina (Tomas+) Rodriguez, brother in law Jose Maria Herrera, sister in law Carmen (Juan) Salinas, granddaughter Kathleen Klarissa (Joshua) McWilliams (Boerne, TX), her granddaughter Allison Marie (Thomas) Gray (Hebbronville, TX), granddaughter Melany Nicole (Eloy) Robles, Jr., grandson Randall Adam Herrera (Renton, VA) grandson Ones Rafael (April) Medina, II, and eight great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by the people whose lives she touched. The family asks that you simply remember her in your prayers and with a smile. That is the way she would have wanted it. And it is the way we will always remember her. A rosary will be recited on Thursday, October 3, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. in the Hillside Funeral Home chapel.  A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 4, 2019 at 8:20 a.m. from Hillside Funeral Home to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.  Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow to the family plot in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.  If you would like to sign the guestbook or send private condolences, you may do so at www.hillsidefuneral.com Arrangements are under the direction of Hillside Funeral Home, 310 Hillside Rd.
