Amparo Irma Ramos Peña, 99, passed into eternal rest on December 9, 2022, at Laredo Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, where she had been a resident for several years. Born January 19, 1923, in Laredo, Texas, she was the daughter of Alonso Ramos and María Tays de Ramos, both deceased. She was predeceased by her siblings, all older, and their spouses, Guillermo (Mary), Zulema (Ernest) Schunior, Esteban (Zulema), Rodolfo (Amelia, Adela), Alonso (Alba), Carmen (Federico) Piton, and Humberto (Irene, Judy), her twin. She is survived by her children, Félix Alfonso (Susan) Peña and Patricia (Albino) Walker, grandchildren Brandon Allen Walker and Amanda María Peña, great-grandchildren Julia Rose Peña, twins Anthony Alonso and Isaac Aaron Reed, and Rowan Rey Schlegel, and by numerous nephews, nieces, and their children and grandchildren. A 1943 graduate of Martin High School, Amparo was very proud of having worked with Humberto Garza-Flores to found and build Twin City Exports into a thriving business. She was very devoted to her family and found great joy in their company. She was an avid reader until stricken by blindness. Amparo will ever be missed for her wit, her intelligence, her compassion, and her unbounded love.
The family will be receiving condolences on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, from 8:00 am to 11:00 am. A liturgy and vigil of the deceased will be recited at 9:30 am.
A formal procession will depart Hillside Funerals and Cremations at 11:15 am for interment at the family plot of the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
