Early on the morning of July 7, 2020, Beatriz M. Garcia entered her eternal rest to join the Lord’s Choir of Angels. She was the youngest child of Clicerio and Inez G. Morales, welcomed into the world on November 17, 1934, in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico. Beatriz graduated from Colegio America, and Escuela Comercial Bernandino del Raso with a diploma in Accounting and Stenography and proceeded to further her education by attending Academia de Ingles to study the English language. On November 18, 1956, Beatriz was joined in holy matrimony to Alonso T. Garcia. She and her husband, Alonso, made their home in Eagle Pass, Texas. Their 63-year union was blessed with two daughters, Lilia Elsa and Gloria Alicia. After her daughters were grown and having time on her hands, Beatriz returned to school and in 1972 graduated from Eagle Pass Maverick County Hospital District School of Vocational Nursing. She then continued her studies to become a Certified Respiratory Technician. Her kind and loving nature coupled with her heartfelt affinity for helping people were her motivation to seek additional degrees in the medical field. Her fascination with learning was always a true inspiration to her daughters and family. She served her community for over 15 years before retiring to enjoy traveling, volunteering, and spending time with her grandchildren. Beatriz and her husband, Alonso, both retired to Laredo, Texas in 1987 and danced their way all over the world via many beautiful vacation adventurers. On November 18, 2014, during one of her favorite trips, his Holiness Pope Francis, as a pledge of divine favor, bestowed the Apostolic Blessing on Beatriz and Alonso in celebration of their 58th Wedding Anniversary. Beache, as she was endearingly referred to by her family and friends, enjoyed many pastimes. She was a founding member of the Social Club D.Y.A.N.A. in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico, and served her Laredo community through countless hours of volunteer work. She was a member of Laredo Chapter #683 of the Catholic Daughters where she provided over 300 hours of service through the Laredo Medical Center Auxiliary. Beatriz was an active member of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) and was elected to serve as secretary of the AARP Chapter 965 in Laredo. Beatriz also served as an Extraordinary Minister for the San Martin de Porres Catholic Church Parish distributing Holy Communion to the sick and homebound. Beatriz always had music in her life from her early piano recitals in Nuevo Laredo, to playing the guitar and singing with the Laredo AARP Rondalla. She sang with the San Martin de Porres 9:00 am Mass Choir for over 25 years, and rounded off her love of music and volunteerism as a member of the 1988-89 Laredo Philharmonic Chorale which performed Dvorak’s Mass, Opus 89 at the San Antonio Festival in the historic San Fernando Cathedral, and then later that season performing in Handel’s Messiah. Remaining to cherish Beatriz’s precious memories are her devoted husband of 63 years Alonso; daughters and sons-in-law Lilia Elsa and Barney Poole of Shreveport, Louisiana, and Gloria Alicia and Brian Drury of Houston, Texas; grandchildren: Jason Poole, James, and Nicole Drury and Melissa Drury. Beatriz is also survived by her loving brother and sister-in-law Dr. Andres and Jeanne Morales, sister in law Amparo A. Garcia, and numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces.
