Elma L. Soulas

Elma Longoria Soulas, 93, passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, in Laredo, Texas.  She was a loving mother who enjoyed spending time with her family.  Mrs. Soulas graduated from San Agustin High School in 1948. She worked at various department stores, followed by Daiches Elementary, and the Credit Bureau.  In addition, she dedicated over 21 years of service to International Bank of Commerce. Upon her retirement, she went off to enjoy country living in Aguilares, Texas.  She will be dearly missed.

Mrs. Soulas is preceded in death by her parents: Ignacio and Elia Longoria; sister: Elva Ornelas; her loving husband: Zeferino A. Soulas.

She is survived by her children: Zeferino A. (Maria) Soulas Jr., Wanda J. Soulas, Laura L. (Armando) Flores, Bernice M. (+Jose Manuel) Martinez, Roxane A. (Michael) Riley, along with special nephews: Edmundo A. (Janie) Martinez and Jose Luis (Patricia) Martinez; grandchildren: Brenda L. Soulas, Kenneth B. Soulas, Michael Soulas, Jose Luis M. Cerda Jr., Athena J. Martinez, Zelene A. Aragon, Amanda L. Flores, Kassandra M. Martinez, Jose M. Martinez Jr., Christopher E. Martinez, and Zamuel M. Riley; 22 great-grandchildren; siblings: Elda (+Jose) Garcia, Ignacio (+Hilda) Longoria; brother-in-law: Ramiro Ornelas. Also surviving are numerous relatives and friends.

The family would like to thank her caregivers: Clara, Antonia, Isidra, and Irma, along with Champion Care Inc., the office staff of Dr. Luis Benavides, and St. Jude Hospice Specialty Inc.

In Lieu of flowers, Mrs. Soulas requested that donations in her memory be made to San Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Laredo, Texas.

The family will receive guests on Monday, January 8, 2024, from 5 to 9 pm at Hillside Funerals & Cremations, where a Vigil for the Deceased and Rosary will be offered at 7 pm.

Funeral procession will depart the funeral chapel at 9 am on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 to San Martin de Porres Catholic Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 am with Rev. Msgr. Alex Salazar.

Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the Laredo City Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Michael Soulas, Jose Luis M. Cerda Jr., Jose M. Martinez Jr., Christopher E. Martinez, Zamuel M. Riley, and Luis A. Martinez.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Zeferino A. Soulas Jr., Ignacio Longoria Jr., Edmundo A. Martinez, Jose Luis Martinez, Armando Flores, and Michael Riley.
