On Saturday, December 9, 2023, God decided to call home our beloved, Eloisa Cruz, at the age of 85 years. She was faithfully surrounded by her caring and loving family at her side. She was born on April 11, 1938, in Zapata, Texas, the daughter of Ramon and Inez Hernandez Zapata.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Ramon and Inez Hernandez Zapata; siblings: Guadalupe Zapata, Vicente Zapata, Marcelino Zapata, Antonio Zapata, Zaragoza Zapata, Jesusa Zapata, Eliodoro Zapata, and Cristina Zapata.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her husband of 67 years of marriage: Sabino Cruz Sr.; children: Zonia (Jorge) Medina, Sabino (Kathy) Cruz Jr., Arturo (Carolyn) Cruz, Ricardo (Adriana) Cruz, Veronica Cruz, Sylvia Cruz, Cynthia (James) Bryer, Sandra (Dean) Arteaga, Elsa Cruz, and Iris Cruz; grandchildren: 28; great-grandchildren: 17; great-great-grandchildren: 2; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Eloisa Zapata Cruz was a matriarch and devoted wife. She protected and loved her family, ensuring that all who came into her home had a warm meal. She carried her family through hardship with strength and such conviction. Eloisa was a firm woman who meant what she said and said what she meant, and who enjoyed laughing and having a good time. Eloisa was a storyteller, sharing her wisdom and a good joke with those who loved her. Eloisa was a creative and curious soul always looking for new projects and skills to take on. She instilled these qualities in the lives she touched and for that, she will live on in the memories of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
The family will receive condolences on the evening of Wednesday, the 13th of December 2023, from 5 to 9 pm at Hillside Funerals & Cremations. A Vigil for the Deceased and Rosary will be offered at 7 pm
The funeral procession will depart the chapel at 9:45 am on Thursday, the 14th of December 2023 to St. John Neumann Catholic Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am.
Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
