Enriqueta H. Benavides, known as Queta by her friends, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones, on March 4, 2019, in Plano, Texas, at the age of 94. She graduated from Martin High School and worked at Zuñiga Forwarding Company, McClellan’s, and Dovalina Elementary School as a teacher’s aide. She volunteered as Den Mother for her son’s cub scout troop, and the many activities at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and School, an active member of her graduating class, and the Senior Circle. When not chasing her five children around, she enjoyed crocheting, ceramics, sewing, good food and socializing. She was always ready to try new things alongside her beloved sister and partner in crime. Preceded in death by her parents Pedro Hernandez and Juana Sifuentes Hernandez; sister, Maria Cristina H. Martinez; brothers, Pedro V. Hernandez and Jose M. Hernandez; oldest son, Hector Benavides, Jr. She is survived by children, Jose R. (Denise) Benavides, Maria E. (Lee) Eakin, Rosa M. (Oscar Jr.) Medina, and Laura A. Mata. Ms. Benavides is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. A rosary will be recited on Friday, March 8, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. in the Hillside Funeral Home Chapel. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at 8:00 a.m. from Hillside Funeral Home to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated at 8:30 a.m. Interment will follow at the family plot of the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
