Fidel C. Salinas, 96, was called home by our Heavenly father on Saturday, May 8, 2021 in Laredo, Texas.
Mr. Salinas was a World War II Veteran who served his country in the European Theatre as part of the 90th Infantry Division where he participated in the Battle of the Bulge and the Saar River Crossing.
An avid outdoorsman he enjoyed hunting, swimming and gardening and always looked forward to family gatherings.
Mr. Salinas retired from Laredo Mercy Hospital in 1986.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Amador and Herminia Salinas; wife, Hilda; sons, Fidel and Derly Salinas.
He is survived by his children, Idalia (Jorge) Mendoza, Daniel (Angeles) Salinas; daughter-in-law, Alma Salinas; grandchildren, Fidel III, Daniel, Laura, Adriana, and Jorge; great-grandchildren, Kimberly, Caroline, Lily, Nathaniel, and Samantha. Mr. Salinas is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A special thanks to his beloved granddaughter Laura and daughter-in-law, Angeles for their compassionate and loving care during his illness.
Dad, you will always be our Hero.
A prayer service will be officiated by Pastor Jose Luis Renteria from Emmanuel Church on Friday, May 14, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. at the Hillside Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
A visitation on Saturday, May 15, 2021 will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. A formal procession will depart immediately after.
Interment will follow to the City of Laredo Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be, Daniel Salinas Jr., Fidel Salinas III, Jorge Mendoza Jr., Rudy Peña, Eduardo Peña, Guadalupe Peña, Gilbert Guzman, and Enrique Urbina.
Military Honors will be provided by the Fort Sam Houston Military Honor Guard and the American Legion Post 59 Honor Guard.
The family would also like to thank the nurses and staff of Serenity Home Care and Rosie Talamantes.
