It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Hector Ortegon on December 13, 2024, at the age of 75. Hector was born on February 16, 1949, and was a native Laredoan.
As a young man, Hector excelled in baseball, a sport he deeply loved. During his high school years at Nixon High School, he was a standout pitcher, earning recognition for his talent and determination. Hector was known for his remarkable work ethic, a trait that earned him the respect of all who knew him. Hector found joy in the simple pleasures of life such as fishing and sitting in a lawn chair soaking in the fresh air. Above all, Hector’s greatest source of happiness was his grandchildren, who filled his heart with endless love and joy.
Hector will be deeply missed by his family and friends, but the memories we shared with him will always be cherished in our hearts.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Jose and Alicia Ortegon; brother: Jose Ortegon Jr.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his beloved spouse: Gloria Iris Ortegon; children: Hector Omar Ortegon, Priscilla Ortegon Ruiz, Albert Longoria; grandchildren: Andria Ortegon, Hector Omar Ortegon Jr., Carlos "Charlie" Ruiz, Sophia Ruiz; great-grandchildren: Haylee and Haydee Ortegon, Daniel Munoz; sister: Sylvia O. Sanchez; sister-in-law: Rosalinda Garza, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, from 5 to 9 pm. A Liturgy of the Word and Rosary, will be offered for the eternal repose of his soul at 7 pm.
A cremation will be held at a later date.
