Homero L. Martinez Jr, of Laredo, passed away on December 12, 2021, at the age of 72, in Laredo.
Homero graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy in 1968 and participated in track and football. Shortly thereafter, Homero enlisted in the United States Navy. He was stationed in Long Beach, California and served aboard the USS Norton Sound, and continued his service to our country in the Naval Reserves. Homero was employed in the petroleum industry for many years and ultimately retired from Schlumberger (formerly Dowell Schlumberger). Homero was an outdoorsman and hunter and loved spending his time at the Laredo Rifle and Pistol Club as their Range Safety Officer.
Homero was preceded in death by his parents Homero and Alicia Martinez, and his brother Federico.
Homero is survived by his loving wife Maria Arlene Martinez (Garza) and together raised five sons: Christian (Monica) Arste, Xavier (Lauren) Arste, Homero III (Vanessa), Evan (Victoria) and Manuel Martinez. Homero was blessed with three granddaughters: Isabella, Mariela and Eva Ausma. He is also survived by siblings Yleana Martinez, Eduardo (Laura) Martinez and Ysela (Jorge) Arechiga.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 7, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at San Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Laredo. Anyone wishing to attend is asked to please meet at the church. There will be no formal procession, please meet at the Veterans section of the City of Laredo Cemetery.
