Idalia Rodriguez born November 17, 1946, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 18, 2022 at the age of 75. She was born in Laredo, Texas and lived there for much of her life.
Idalia graduated from Texas A&M International University in Laredo, Texas and worked for the State of Texas for many years before finding her true calling as a teacher as well as a bilingual educator. She taught at Katherine F. Tarver Elementary School and at Memorial Middle School in Laredo, Texas. She inspired students and coworkers for 23 years before retiring in May of 2008. A true Texan in heart and spirit she could not venture far from the heartland and spent her retirement years in Austin, TX where she dedicated herself to her family and friends. She especially enjoyed educating and guiding her two beloved grandchildren. Idalia was her unofficial family historian and was enthusiastic in researching her genealogy. She also enjoyed sharing her knowledge and conversing endlessly revealing interesting and unique stories about her family's previous generations. Those who knew Idalia best knew of her deep love for animals, particularly her Cocker Spaniel, Belle. Idalia was passionate about the political scene and did not shy away from political discussions. She could be found volunteering at the polls on Election Days.
Idalia was unique in her personality and her generosity touched many lives. She will be treasured and greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Idalia is preceded in death by her parents, Estela (Gonzalez) & Felix Rodriguez, Jr.; siblings, Felix Rodriguez III, and Diana Rodriguez.
Idalia is survived by her son, Gabriel (Griselda) Rodriguez; two grandchildren, Arissa and Isaak; siblings, Rosalinda Rodriguez, Alma Rodriguez, and Horacio Rodriguez. She is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces, five grandnephews and nieces, other relatives and friends.
A rosary will be recited on Friday, April 22, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. at the Hillside Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at 8:30 a.m. from Hillside Funeral Home to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m.
Interment will follow at the family plot of the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
