John Mark Rubio

June 27, 1973 — December 19, 2024

Laredo, Texas

John Mark Rubio, 51, more fondly known as 'Mark' by family and friends, passed away on Thursday, December 19th, 2024. He had lived in Laredo, Texas, for over 46 years.

Born in Corpus Christi, Texas, on June 27th, 1973, to Dora De Los Santos Rubio and Juan Rubio, Mark and his beloved mother moved to Laredo, Texas, when Mark was five. A resident of Laredo, Texas, for over 46 years, Mark committed himself to making improvements around the city as a Survey Party chief and Engineering Technician for Paul Garza & Associates before committing himself to Crane Engineering for over 28 years. Mark performed land surveying for multiple infrastructure projects for municipalities and private development throughout South Texas. Mark, a self-taught AutoCad technician and drone pilot, utilized these skills to perform construction inspection and review civil engineering designs for accuracy. His passion for and knowledge of the industry was passed onto summer interns learning the surveying profession while attending engineering universities throughout Texas.

Mark brought laughter and joy into every room. He did not believe in letting someone go through something alone. He always offered an ear to those who needed someone to listen. He found his happiness in moments with the ones he loved most, with a laugh that could be heard down the hall and a smile that brightened any room. He was a man of the Earth, drawn to sandy shores and peaceful swims in the ocean’s waves. His fearless nature and adventurous spirit took him to cities around the U.S., but he also understood how to appreciate and be grateful for what he had created in the four walls he called home. He passed this on to his children.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Lily Rubio, and his two children, Amanda Michelle Rubio and Marco Antonio Rubio; his mother, Dora De Los Santos Rubio; his sisters, Annie Garza (Eddie), Linda Matulda, Melba Salinas (Noe), and Sandy Rios (Armando); cousins, nieces, nephews, close friends, and other relatives.

The family will hold a funeral mass at San Martin de Porres, 1704 Sandman St, on Monday, December 30th, at 10:00 a.m. After the mass, people are invited to gather with the family for a meal.
