Jose Luis Cardenas “Romeo”
June 7, 1954 - January 11, 2024
Jose Luis Cardenas “Romeo”, joined our Lord Jesus and Blessed Mother Mary in His Heavenly Kingdom on Thursday, January 11, 2024. He was a humble and loving Man of God with a heart of gold and a devoted Catholic who loved to spread the Word of the Lord. He was a true testament of what Faith can do, a True Man of God. No matter what health struggles, he always praised God and was eager to share his testimony. Jose Luis “Romeo”, as he was called by most of his friends, was very involved with his church and local community serving in various capacities such as a Eucharistic Minister at San Luis Rey Church where he joyfully visited the sick in the hospital and rehabilitation center distributing the Holy Eucharist. He was dedicated and involved with the ACTS Community where he served on several retreats. Two of his favorite songs were “Enciendo Una Luz” and “Sumergeme”. At Our Lady of Guadalupe he was blessed to be part of Los Discipulos de Jesus and Sociedad Adoracion Noctura. He loved participating as an actor for the Lenten Season Play, where his acting left an imprint in many hearts. He was also an active member of the Cursillo Movement. Just this past year, “Romeo” was selected as one of the 2023 American Cancer Association Ambassadors of Courage. He was a very strong Cancer Survivor and loved participating in the annual Webb County Relay for Life American Cancer Society events.
He was preceded in death by his wife - Estela Cardenas Perez; Mother - Guadalupe Hernandez Perez, Maternal Grandparents - Loreto Calzada and Jose Santillana; Father - Jose I. Cardenas; Paternal Grandfather - Jose Cardenas; Brother - Jose Valentin Hernandez (Leonor); Brother - Federico Hernandez (Guadalupe); and Sister - Amelia Hernandez de Moreno.
