Josefina (Josie) M. Juárez entered into the heavenly garden on June 18th 2023, having been faithfully surrounded by her loving and caring family. Josie was born on July 13th 1931, the daughter of Luis F. Martinez Sr. and Ofelia Resendez Martinez, who preceded her in death.
Josie will join those who preceded her in death, sisters Maria Luisa Martin, Eva Teresa Martinez Postell; brothers, Luisito Martinez, Luis F Martinez Jr., Julio (Zoila) Martinez and Adolfo R. Martinez; son in law, Pat McGannon; great grandson David Hass;
Josie attended school in Laredo, ultimately graduating from Ursuline Academy and attended Laredo Jr. College. In 1949 she met the love of her life, Manuel Jesus (Chuy) Juárez, Jr. at the junior/senior prom at Ursuline Academy. They were married and she joined her husband as part owner of Casa Juárez. She was an intelligent, astute, and insightful businesswoman, and together with her husband grew their business into the success it is today. While working full time, she and her husband raised seven children whom she loved passionately. She considered her children her most important job for whom no sacrifice was too big or too small.
Although busy raising children and running a business, Josie never lost her wonderful sense of humor and love for life. She will always be remembered for how joyful she was and how she had a way of making everyone laugh, even into the final days of her life! She was a devout Catholic and longtime member of St. John Newman Church. She was a member of the L’avenir Club, Women’s City Club, and Women’s LULAC Club. She was keenly interested in history, archaeology, and genealogy and was a member of the Laredo Archeology Society. Her business interests led her to being a longtime member of the Laredo Restaurant Association. When it was time to relax and have fun, she loved bowling and her bowling team members, traveling, dancing, music, and family gatherings. She will always be remembered as a kind, loving, and devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend.
Left behind to cherish and honor her memory are her beloved husband of over 72 years of marriage, Manuel J. Juarez Jr ; her children: Dolores (Daniel) Villarreal, Manuel J. Juárez III, Jesus Roberto (Beto) Juárez, Rosemary McGannon, Gilda Juárez, Olga (Brad) McCoy, and Liza Juárez-Jaramillo; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; sisters-in-law Patricia Juárez Vela, Irma Martinez and Rebecca F.
