María Elisa Aguilar Palacios, 88, a longtime resident of Laredo, TX passed away peacefully on August 15, 2019, in San Antonio, TX, surrounded by her family after a long illness with Alzheimer’s. Elisa was born in Aguilares, TX, a small town founded by her great-great-grandfather located 26 miles east of Laredo. In her teen years, her family moved to Laredo where she attended and graduated from Ursuline Academy. Afterward, she worked at Neisner’s Department Store where she met her future husband Pedro Palacios. Elisa and Pedro were married in 1955. They lived together in Laredo for 3 years, then lived in Corpus Christi for 6 years before returning and making a permanent home in Laredo. Growing up in a large family, Elisa was happy to have a large family of her own with 7 children. She dedicated her life to raising her family within the catholic faith at San Luis Rey Church. In her spare time, Elisa enjoyed gardening, sewing, attending her children’s and grandchildren’s many school events as well as church activities, but mostly she enjoyed going out dancing with her husband. Elisa was immensely proud of her family and leaves behind countless of beautiful memories. All who loved her will never forget her grace, kindness, and love for them. Elisa is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years Pedro Palacios; her daughter Rebecca Palacios; parents, Elvira Rodriguez Aguilar and Enrique Aguilar; brothers Leo Enrique Aguilar and Anselmo Eloy Aguilar. Elisa is survived by six children, Delia (George) Escamilla, Pedro Palacios Jr., Luis (Marbelyn) Palacios Sr., José (Myrna) Palacios Sr., Lucía (George) Calzada and Martin (Catherine) Palacios; thirteen grandchildren, Myrna González, Elizabeth (Eduardo) Rodriguez, José (Beatrice) Palacios Jr., Luis Palacios Jr., Eric Palacios, Priscilla Palacios, Ashley Palacios, Rebecca (Edward) Kepfer, Lindsey Calzada, Martin (Brianna) Palacios, Victoria Escamilla, Matthew Palacios, and Adrianna Palacios; four great grandchildren, Chloris González, Kayla González, Joeanna Palacios and Liliana Lucía Kepfer; four sisters, Evangelina (Carlos)Gutierrez, Elvira Arredondo, Enriqueta (Lauro) Benavides and Emma Spillane; brother, José (Anna) Aguilar. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and other relatives. A Rosary will be recited on Friday, August 23, 2019, at 7:00 p.m. in the Hillside Funeral Home chapel. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2019, at 8:00 a.m. from Hillside Funeral Home to San Luis Rey Catholic Church. A mass will be celebrated at 8:30 a.m. Interment will follow to the family plot at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
