On January 2, 2021, the Lord called up Pete to join him in heaven because his work here on earth is done. He is preceded by the most recent passing of this son, Pete Gallegos Jr., sisters Rosa, Josie and Mary, brothers Agustin Jr., Martin and Juan and parents Agustin Sr. and Consuelo Gallegos.
Pete was a 1959 Graduate from Martin High School and a very proud “Tiger”. His fleet of forty trailers was known for the branding “Class of ’59”. He was honored to be inducted to the Tiger Legends, one of his many accolades. Pete also received other recognitions such as being named several times to the prestigious Hispanic Business Magazine 500 Largest U.S. Hispanic-Owned Companies and the Laredo Chamber of Commerce Businessman of the year.
Pete was a very well-known businessman that owned and operated Pete Gallegos Paving, Big Buck Asphalt, Javalina Ready Mix, O’Boy Service Company, Laredo Steel, Commercial Truck Services, Flint Crushing, and La Joya Farms.
Pete leaves a legacy that greatly impacts all Laredoans today and Laredoans to come, having paved hundreds of miles of Laredo streets, including the southern end of Interstate 35 and the streets downtown that are constructed of brick pavers.
Pete was a very giving man by supporting the Sacred Heart Children’s Home, The Boys Scouts of America, Laredo International Fair and Exposition (LIFE) amongst many other organizations.
He is survived by his children, Pete+ (Liliana) Gallegos Jr., Melissa (Alfonso) Moreno, Gerardo (Rosie) Gallegos, Clarissa (Javier) Sandoval, and their mother Maria Ofelia “Mae” Gallegos, Sheldon (Andrea) Gallegos and his mother Leticia Gallegos, Leslie Gallegos and her mother Linda Gallegos. Pete is also survived by his brothers Jorge and Guillermo Gallegos and many nieces and nephews.
However, his most cherished honor was being called “Grandpito” by his 18 grandchildren and 16 Great Grand Children. Sincerest thanks to his grandson, Gerardo Gallegos Jr., who cared for him until his passing.
