Pedro “Pete” Palacios, 88, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, March 30, 2018 in Laredo, Texas. Mr. Palacios is a veteran who served as a Corporal in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. The patriotism he learned in the Army never left him as he proudly displayed the American flag at his home. He was a truck driver for Southwestern Motor Transport where he retired after 45 years earning a safe driver award and logging in over 1 million miles. After retiring, he became an active member at Woodman Life where he participated in charitable activities. He enjoyed playing pool, softball, dominos, and loteria and also enjoyed fishing, barbecuing and family gatherings. He was a kind, giving man who was always there to help family and friends in need. Mr. Palacios is preceded in death by his daughter, Rebecca Palacios; parents, Gregorio and Angelina Palacios; siblings, Olivia Morquecho, Tomas Palacios, and Gloria Vasquez. Mr. Palacios is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Maria Elisa A. Palacios; children, Delia (George) Escamilla, Pedro Palacios Jr., Luis (Marbelyn) Palacios, Jose (Myrna) Palacios, Lucia (George) Calzada, Martin (Catherine) Palacios; brother, Manuel (Pauline) Palacios; sister, Andrea Cantu;13 grandchildren: Myrna (Jose) Gonzalez, Elizabeth (Eduardo) Rodriguez, Jose (Beatrice) Palacios Jr., Luis Palacios Jr., Eric Palacios, Priscilla Palacios, Ashley Palacios, Rebecca (Edward) Kepfer, Lindsey Calzada, Martin Palacios, Victoria Escamilla, Matthew Palacios, Adrianna Palacios, 3 great-grandchildren, Chloris Gonzalez, Kayla Gonzalez, and Joeanna Palacios. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. A rosary will be recited on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. in the Hillside Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 8:00 a.m. from Hillside Funeral Home to San Luis Rey Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated at 8:30 a.m. Military honors will be provided by the Fort Sam Houston Honor Guard and American Legion Post 59 Honor Guard. Interment will follow at the family plot of the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
