Xavier Piña, 67 departed this life March 27, 2018. He was born, March 9, 1951 to Gregorio Piña, Jr and Maria Santos (Idrogo) Piña. Xavier Piña was a life-long faithful Christian parishioner of Mother Cabrini Church. In his earlier years, Xavier was an Eagle Scout. He is a graduate of the Class of 1970, Martin High School where he was in the ROTC and President of the Slide Rule Club. Xavier attended the University of Texas and Laredo Junior College obtaining his LVN (Licensed Vocational Nursing) Degree. Xavier’s specialty was pediatric home-health care and home health nurse for the terminally ill. Xavier enjoyed playing the guitar and the accordion. Laredo Catholic Churches will miss his daily visits to the Tabernacle for his hours of Adoration. Xavier is preceded in death by his parents, Gregorio Piña, Jr., and Maria Santos (Idrogo) Piña, his brother, Roberto “Bovy” Piña, his grand-parents Ignacio Idrogo, Jr. & Rafaela Oviedo-Idrogo of Laredo; grand-parents Gregorio Piña of Port Lavaca & Isabel Canales-Pina of Laredo, Texas.   He is survived by his daughter Maricette Piña of Washington, D.C.; his brothers: Dr. Gregorio Piña III, (Lucy) & family of Edinburg, Texas, Mario J. Piña, (Irma) & family of Wimberly, Texas, Gerardo “Jerry” Piña, (Dora Elsa) & family of Laredo, Rolando Piña of Laredo, Texas; sisters, Edna P. Santos & family  of Austin, Texas, Maria Del Rosario P. Gonzales of & family of Austin, Texas, and Dr. Isabella Piña-Hinojosa, (Blas Daniel) & family of Denton, Texas. Xavier had 24 grand-nephews/nieces, 23 great-grand- nephews/nieces, and five great-great-grand nephews. A rosary will be recited Monday, April 2, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at the Hillside Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held, Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 8:30 a.m. from Hillside Funeral Home to Mother Cabrini Church where a Liturgy of the Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. by Monsignor Harris.
